YOGA @ HOPE RISES
Partnerships that make a difference
A truly unique partnership between Compassion Works For All, Hope Rises, and CIYT Joy Wasson began in March, 2021 with financial support from the Iyengar Yoga Association of the South Central U.S. who provided a grant to provide props and support to the new program.
This program benefits 20 women enrolled in the Hope Rises re-entry program by teaching the basic components of a regular home practice of yoga poses (asana) and breathing meditation (pranayama).
As of June 1, we are currently in week 8 of what was intended to be an 8-week trial course. It is going so well we need your support to keep it going!
Would you like to support? See items needed in the below sections, enroll in the Friday "pay what you can/donation class" at noon during the summer, OR buy a class pass for a friend. All proceeds will go towards supporting this program to bring the path of yoga as a tool for women transitioning from prison back into their home lives. You'll never know how much your donation might mean to someone struggling to improve their lives.
Hope Rises is one of the facilities under Re-nu Life Center. Check out more about these transformative re-entry programs here.

STARTING THE PROGRAM
Making the props and preparing the space
The yoga program at Hope Rises is offered in a room originally meant for storage. This means there are certain things, if donated, that could make this a much more comfortable space! If you are looking to help in some way we could use the following donated items or services:
Portable A/C: $350 - $500 at Home Depot, Sams, or Walmart. This rooms is getting hot in the summer time with no A/C. (A unit like this could also be used to supplement an already hot kitchen area when not used for yoga!)
Flooring: $16/box @ Walmart (3-5 boxes needed) peel and stick flooring to put down on the concrete floor. This will make a cleaner, durable surface for practice.
Extension cords & 2-3 fans for the practice room. We also need an installed plug-in the room for anyone that may be an electrician! We have a TV that could be used for more opportunities of yoga instruction via online classes, but there is no plug-in in the practice room.
A truck/trailer and strong back! For removal of damaged/inoperable appliances: anyone willing to provide a truck or trailer and take a load to the dump to provide more practice space.
